Navigate the Knowledge Graph

Introduction

Select Knowledge graph to open and navigate the Knowledge Graph.

Warning

The first load of the Knowledge Graph may take a few minutes.

Check the current Knowledge Graph

To check the current Knowledge graph, watch the drop-down list on the left upper corner.

The Knowledge Graph displayed by default corresponds to the Tech version used to create the project.

In the Thesaurus projects the Knowledge Graph displayed by default is based on the favorite project language.

Change the current Knowledge Graph

If the project has multiple Knowledge Graphs, for example some CPKs have been loaded or some Knowledge Graph customization projects are built, click the drop-down list on the left-upper corner and then select the item of your interest.

Note

It is possible to load maximum five Knowledge Graphs.

Check the number of concepts

To check the current Knowledge Graph number of concepts, watch the the upper left corner.

Check the current Knowledge Graph number of lemmas

To check the current Knowledge Graph number of lemmas, watch the upper left corner.

The root concepts

The root concepts shape the noun-based conceptual network displayed on the right.

Select one of the following tabs to change the root concept:

Animal
Place
Concepts
Group
Natural Phenomenon
Person
Physical Object
Plant
Quantity
State
Time

For each selected root concept, you can find under CURRENT GRAPH:

The part of speech.
The lemma.
The definition.
The number of narrower concepts displayed in the network on the right.

To zoom-in, zoom-out and drag the conceptual network use your mouse.

Info

Based on the technology version, you may or may not find the syncon definition where described.

Search for lemmas

To search for a lemma:

Double-click a concept, represented by a dot, in the conceptual network.

Or:

Enter the lemma in the search bar (minimum one character), then press Enter or select the magnifying glass . Suggestions are displayed while typing.

Select Clear to reset your search criteria.

Select Ignore case for case insensitive searches.

Select Match case for case sensitive searches.

Select Orbits view to display the orbits.

Select List view to display the list view with cards.

Orbits view

If you select Orbits view and then you search for a lemma in the search bar or by double-clicking a dot in the conceptual network the following information is displayed:

The lemma in the central part (A).
The related narrower syncons centered in a in orbit if they have narrower syncons (B). All syncons related to the searched lemma can be compared to planets around which their narrower concepts orbit like smaller planets.
The related lemma narrower syncons definition (C).
The related lemma narrower syncons scoring (D). The scoring, represented by five dots, is the syncon frequency related to the searched lemma.

The narrower concepts can be:

Turquoise for nouns.
Orange for verbs.
Green for adjectives.
Yellow for proper nouns.
Indigo for adverbs.

View the syncons properties window

To view the syncon properties window, select a centered syncon or a narrower concept.

The window displays:

Part of speech
Lemma(s)
Main syncon ID
Conceptual chain
Domain(s)
Definition
Broader chain tab
Narrower concepts tab

Select the information icon beside the syncon ID to see the other IDs. Select the clipboard icon to copy the ID.

Select the Broader chain to show the syncon broader concepts from bottom to top.

Select the Narrower concepts tab to show the syncon narrower concepts.

Note

The narrower concepts you see in orbit view may not correspond to the total amount available in the list view.
Double-click a concept from the tabs to view it in detail.

Display the syncon details

To display the syncon details double-click it.

You can see the:

Broader concepts under BROADER CONCEPTS
Lemma(s)
Syncon ID
Conceptual chain
Domain(s)
Definition
Narrower concepts
The current chain

Note

The number of narrower concepts in orbit view may not correspond to the total amount, but you can see it in the upper right corner of the page.

To see other syncon IDs, hover over the information icon . Select the clipboard icon to copy the ID.

To change the relation among syncons select an option from the Current chain drop-down menu.

To view a narrower or broader concept double-click it.

To move to to the next narrower concept, select Next concept .

To move to the previous narrower concept, select Previous concept .

To go to the main orbits view select Back to results.

Search for a lemma

Enter the lemma in the search bar (minimum one character), then press Enter or select the magnifying glass . Suggestions are displayed while typing.

Show and hide the collocations

To show the possible collocations of the lemma, select Show collocations .

To hide the collocations of the lemma, select Hide collocations .

To search for a collocation enter the search criteria (minimum three characters) in the search bar, then press Enter or select the magnifying glass . Suggestions are displayed while typing.

Show the list view

To show the list view select List view .

Case searches

Select Ignore case for case insensitive searches. Select Match case for case sensitive searches

If you select List view and then you search for a lemma in the search bar or by double-clicking a dot in the conceptual network the following information is displayed:

Parts of speech results (A).
Syncon domains of belonging and their count results (B).
Total results with their specific properties listed in cards (C).

Filter the results by part of speech

To filter the results by part of speech, select the related button beside All results.

Select All Results to view all the results regarding parts of speech.

Filter the results by domains of belongings

To filter the results by domains of belongings, select the related button below Domains of belonging.

Select All to view all the results regarding domains.

Syncon card properties

The related syncon shows the following information:

Lemma(s)
Syncon ID
Conceptual chain
Part of speech (C)
Domain(s) and its/their frequency (E)
Definition (F)

Hover over the information icon to view other IDs. Select the clipboard icon to copy an ID.

View the syncon details

To view the syncon details double-click its related card.

The main panel displays the following information:

Part of speech
Lemma(s)
Syncon ID
Conceptual chain
Domain(s) and frequency
Definition
The chain of broader concepts above the selected syncon
The list of narrower concepts below the selected syncon

Each narrower concept contains the:

Part of speech
Lemma(s)
Conceptual chain
Syncon ID
Domain(s) and frequency
Definition

Double-click a broader or a narrower concept to view it in detail.

Hover over the information icon to view other syncon IDs and select the clipboard icon to copy an ID.

Select the relation among syncons from the Current chain drop-down menu.

The chain of broader concepts that you see above the selected syncon can be a one-way or a two-way chain, like this:

While you can see the whole conceptual chain on the left, the two-way chain is interrupted, because a concept shares two broader concepts at the same level. You can use the Concept path tab to see the whole conceptual chain based on a selected broader concept.

One-way	Two-way

To see the conceptual chain based on one of the two broader concepts, select it. The selected broader concept turns bold, the other one is grayed out and the conceptual chain is entirely visible.

To see the conceptual chain based on the other broader concept:

Select the bold concept. You will see the interrupted two-way conceptual chain as before in the Concept path tab.
Select the other broader concept. The same thing described above will happen.

Note

It is possible to find out if narrower concepts of the concept in focus have other children nodes by selecting them.

The left a panel is composed of two tabs:

Search results
Concept path

Search for results

To filter the results select:

All to view all parts of speech.
Nouns to display the nouns.
Verbs to display the verbs.
Proper nouns to display the proper nouns.
Adjectives to display the adjectives.
Adverbs to display the adverbs.

Or:

Enter the search criteria in the search bar.

Select a syncon from the list to view it in detail in the main panel.

Concept path

The Concept path tab displays the path to the root.

Double-click a concept in the Concept path tab to view it in detail.

If a concept in focus has related concepts that are linked with the the syncon corpus, select to display the Related concepts panel.

The panel displays a list of related concepts that have the following information:

Part of speech
Lemma(s)
Conceptual chain
Syncon ID
Domain(s) and its/their frequency
Definition

Double-click a concept in the list to view it in detail.

Hover over the information icon to view other syncon IDs and select the clipboard icon to copy a syncon ID.

Select to hide the Related concepts panel.
